Eye Camp at Amitava Basak, Phulia- A free eye check-up camp was organised by Sarba Shanti Ayog in association with Eye Care Research Centre, Kolkata on Wednesday, 10th February 2010 at Phulia. The camp was held at the premises of one of Sasha’s producer partners- Amitava Basak. About 50 people, Weavers, dyers, women, men and the staff of Amitava Basak, Samaresh Pal and Kartick Biswas -three the producer groups of SASHA from Phulia attended the camp. Besides a routine eye check-up by ophthalmologists, patients were specially examined for cataract.
At the Fair, artisans and craft producers from around the country put up 30 stalls to display locally made handcrafted products. 18 producer groups from the Sasha network in West Bengal and Orissa participated with an array of products –hand woven home linen, textile & leather personal accessories, footwear, garments, decorative items, coir & grass baskets, ceramics, dhokra jewellery & artefacts etc. The Fair is about showcasing the rich diverse repertoire of skills across the country and especially Bengal. It also works towards sensitising urban people to the kind of choices they can make from a huge collection of handcrafted and eco-friendly products. Update from the Sasha Shop- The Shop saw a flurry of activities on occasion of the festive spirit in the city on Holi. Tourists from all over the world throng the city during this time and we witnessed higher incidence of footfalls at the shop. Quote from a customer Ms. Suekali Stubbs on Rasa body care products "I have been coming to Sasha every year for 20 yrs - the products here are excellent. The Sasha face cream, oils, massage oil, they last the whole year in UK. I strongly suggest to all Indian people - use your own natural beauty products - not western chemical based ones. To support Fair Trade, women and have excellent natural products is the best way to live” Read the January Update by clicking here
