Leelaji said Sadhna began with only 15 artisans in the year 1988 and today they have 618 artisans earning Rs. 500-3000 a month. She elaborated on how the artisans have gained the courage to attend the expos in Indian metros, Pakistan, US and Europe individually. There are also two Sadhna retail outlets in Udaipur. The factors that turned around Sadhna, which was at one point about to close down, are:-

  1. Refining the product designs and development.
  2. Systematic and tighter quality control and adherence to deadlines.
  3. HR initiatives to improve productivity
The presentation was followed by an extensive question answer session where participants (group leaders) asked several practical questions and Leelaji replied from Sadhna’s experience on what works and what did not.
Sasha group’s representatives spoke about their experiences and the change they could bring in after being associated with Sasha. They also discussed various challenges they face. Participants were from different craft sectors like dyeing, printing, embroidery, tailoring and other craft areas too. Everyone felt that this interaction was extremely useful for them and it was decided a small group will visit Sadhna as an exposure visit to learn more and see how they are implementing the good practices on the ground.
