world fair trade day

World fair Trade day was kicked off at the Sasha shop on the 4th of May with presentations by designers Eduardo Perri and Bappaditya Biswas. The renowned dancer Tanushree Shankar inaugurated the event.

'Design Connection' was a presentation by Italian designer Eduardo Perri on his experiences during a 3 month workshop in Bastar, Madhya Pradesh. He showed a range of terra-cotta, iron ware and dhokara products and in his presentation explained the design process he went through. The show was called 'Indian taste, Italian style' and the products show cased how successful these collaborations can be.

'Woven Air' was a presentation by Indian designer Bappaditya Biswas on his experience of developing new weaves with the weavers of Phulia, West Bengal. He displayed a range of very fine cotton and cotton / silk scarves and saris.

There were other events until the 7th of May.

  • Oddments from 'Odd Couple' by Niel Simon - A dramatized play reading by Spotlight.
  • 'Fusion', a jazz concert by renowned Calcutta musicians, Nondon Bagchi, Lew Hilt and Arpita Chaterjee.
  • Presentation of the Rasa range of Spices and Herbal cosmetics. The well known beautician June Tomkyns gave a demonstration on the correct use and benefits of these products.
