cyclone relief work in orissa

After the devastating 1999 cyclone in Orissa, many craftspeople of the Sasha family were affected. Houses, work places, raw materials and tools were damaged.

Sasha mobilized funds from agencies like CAPART, Sasha buyers and friends to rebuild a total number of 115 homes in Raghurajpur, Mahamaya, Lingharaj, and Pipli. In Mahamaya a common workshed is being built for the weavers there. During construction new ideas were incorporated for better ventilation and light.

Efforts were made to generate more orders for these craftspeople. Product development workshops were organised with the stone carvers from Linghraj, appliqué workers in Pipli, weavers in Mahamaya and patta chitra artists of Raghurajpur. Exhibitions were organised to increase sales and generate new markets.
