Autumn Prints

This project was jointly done by Sonam (a Delhi based fashion designer), Sasha and the block printers from Serampur. Following is a report by the designer:

On reaching Kolkata on the 30th of May, 2002, I met with printers, Sushanto and Pradipta and discussed colours and prints which were available with Brindaban Prints and which could be used. Through communication, an understanding was developed on design and which colours and prints would best flow with cotton fabrics.

Traditional colours were decided on, such as red, green, indigo and yellow. Gold khari was added to ornament the fabric. Indigo, blue and white contrasted as base colours to the collection. Samples were decided on through discussion of existing and newly created designs developed by the Self Help Handicraft Society.

Latikadi, Sumatidi and all the other members, with Devika coordinating, showed a keen understanding and enthusiasm. Finishing details and changes were discussed to create well designed products for the world market.

In 10 days a creatively exciting collection was put together by all these minds and is as layered as life itself with colors, textures and prints.
