Social Development Fair- 7-9 November 2008, Ice Skating Rink, Kolkata

The grand celebration of thirty years of Sasha’s engagement with craft producers began with a three-days long exhibition in the heart of the city in association with the Fair rade Forum-India. It was one of its kind-well planned, providing exposure to the craftspeople from all over the country to showcase their products and skills and generate business.

There were in total 46 stalls, made up of bamboo and jute styled in an ethnic fashion, put up by artisans from places like Bengal, Gujarat, Karnataka, Orissa, etc. The items that were sold, included wooden utility products, musical instruments, ceramics, brass and Dhokra  artifacts, jewelery, textiles ,leather,  jute, cane and bamboo wood, metal crafts, jewellery, pottery and decorative hangings and the list was long.

The groups who participated in the exhibition were Representatives of Hanging group, Representatives of leather groups, Anwesha tribal art and crafts, Parampara, Kala Aparajita, Puri Creative Handicrafts, Share, KMVS, Sandur Kushal Kala Kendra, Ochre, Weave Craft, Karu Udyan, Lingaraj Art and Crafts, Darbar Sahitya Sansad,Laxminarayan Adak, Nitish Ghoroi, Sathi Samaj Sevi Sanstha, Artisan Association, Mahamaya,Mayabazar, Art space, Subarna Ashram, CSWS, Ushagram, Amitav Basak, Samaresh Paul, RASA, EMA, MESH, Delhi, Silence, Calcutta Rescue, Fair Deal, SKVIS,  Imagination, Maroma, Sewa, Ankurkala and Sahaj.

The entire fair had a festive air, bringing in the rustic traditional charm of the villages to the city folk.
